Job Title: Minister of Christian Formation
Reports To: Senior Minister
Classification Exempt; 30 hours per week
SUMMARY
The Minister of Christian Formation plans and implements educational, small group, and other programs for the Christian formation and the life-long spiritual development for adults. Participates in pastoral care and worship leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and offer dynamic programs for the Christian formation and the life-long spiritual development of adults.
Manage adult church school programming.
Support mindful spirituality in all aspects of Binkley’s life including such programs as spiritual life retreats, church-wide retreats, prayer gatherings, seasonal events, and others.
Work with relevant church groups such as the Christian Formation Committee, the Seymour Symposium, and others to plan educational offerings, retreats, programs, and special events for spiritual development.
Lead Wednesday Evening Programming.
Collaborate with the Associate Minister in serving as staff liaison for ecumenical formational opportunities.
Develop caring relationships with members of the church family to facilitate their growth in faith and involvement in the life of the church.
Take a major role in pastoral care as part of Binkley Pastoral Care Team.
Assist in worship planning and implementation.
Keep current on the latest trends, methods, and materials related to adult religious education and spiritual formation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the work of lay leaders from the congregation who contribute to Christian adult education programs and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master of Arts in Christian Education, or Master of Divinity degree, or B.A. in related field with additional experience, training, or course work in Christian Education and Spiritual Formation.
Experience
1-3 years of experience in Christian education leadership and programming preferred
Demonstrated Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of education theory and practice
Knowledge and experience in spiritual formation for adults
Ability to work cooperatively with church members and church staff
Strong communication skills, including active listening and ability to use technology and social media where appropriate
Ability to generate new ideas and to convert them to plans
Leadership and training skills that empower others to take on educational roles
Ability to listen well and respond to feedback
