Why Here We Grow Matters
AWAB is the only organization across the Baptist landscape solely devoted to supporting churches in being and becoming welcoming and affirming of all people, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
What began as a grassroots movement more than fifty years ago has grown into an international network of churches and ministry partners. AWAB now works with Baptist communities in the United States and beyond while continuing to support congregations seeking to deepen their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.
The Here We Grow Campaign was created to strengthen AWAB for this expanding work. Reaching our $1 million goal will help ensure that AWAB has the staff capacity and financial stability needed to serve the movement faithfully into the future.
What Your Gift Makes Possible
Connecting with Congregations
Campaign support allows AWAB to consult with more congregations as they discern their path toward becoming welcoming and affirming. It also strengthens our outreach across the Baptist landscape, with intentional attention to communities that have historically received fewer affirming resources.
Resourcing LGBTQ+ People and Allies
Here We Grow helps AWAB respond to religious harm by offering resources that affirm the sacred worth of LGBTQ+ people. Campaign funding also supports the continued growth of our online resource library, educational programming, Annual Lecture, and public advocacy.
Supporting Queer Ministers
Campaign funding strengthens AWAB’s ability to connect LGBTQ+ clergy with congregations and develop partnerships that support queer seminarians and others exploring a call to ministry.

Consult and resource even more congregations as they discern their own path to becoming welcoming and affirming
Intentionally join in new ways with the larger Baptist landscape, emphasizing BIPOC congregations
~ Resource the LGBTQ+ community and allies ~
Address the realities of religious harm and stigma in order to provide hope for those who are marginalized
Increase our online resource library to become the go-to location for affirming assets
Provide monthly webinars to address a range of topics related to LGBTQ+ realities impacting both queer folx and allies alike
Continue our annual lectureship, which features a scholar, theologian, or historian who
offers perspective and thought rooted in and informed
by the academy but practical
in application to LGBTQ+ issues
Respond in moments of
needed advocacy with
statements of solidarity, vigils, events, or whatever else is necessary in the face of political, social, and religious injustice
