Who We Are
First Baptist Church lives these words of welcome, setting up a neurodiversity cart to support the full participation of all worshippers, starting PRISM (an LGBTQ community center in Pottstown), offering non-violent resistance training to the community to support neighbors threatened by ICE and selling our “old first” building to free up resources for ministry. The congregation resides and worships – in a house church style – at Mission First, a separate inner-city mission with multiple outreach ministries.
Why We Are Searching for a Transitional Minister
Following the retirement of our senior pastor of the last eight years, we seek to discern how to expend our assets both to increase the sum of justice, mercy and love in our community and how to become increasingly known as a place where others can be part of this effort.
Qualifications and Professional Strengths Sought
- Master of Divinity or Doctor of Ministry (from an ATS-accredited seminary or regionally accredited university)
- Ordination in and good standing with a recognized denomination (ABC preferred)
- Spiritual leadership expressed in creative worship, biblical preaching, progressive theology and teaching that motivates engaged action toward Jesus’ vision for local and global justice
- Compassionate pastoral care
- Administration and supervision of staff
- Strategic thinking and visioning, inspiring the congregation toward discernment
- Energized communications and marketing leadership, social media engagement and community presence
- Informed comfort level with livestreaming, digital meetings and online engagement
Position Details
- Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week
- Start date: Sept. 1, 2026 (for anticipated 9-18 months service)
- Works collaboratively with the Ministry Coordination Team
- Called by the active membership of the congregation
