Presented in Partnership With:
Come Stick Out Your Neck With Us!
Voice of the Turtle is a new podcast from the Association of Welcoming & Affirming Baptists, produced in partnership with Good Faith Media.
In a time of uncertainty for LGBTQ+ people and their allies, AWAB is creating space to remember, reflect, and move forward with courage. Through this podcast, we revisit important stories from Baptist life, lift up the voices of those who helped shape the welcoming and affirming movement, and explore how that witness continues today.
The title Voice of the Turtle is drawn from an LGBTQ+ Baptist newsletter published in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Its motto was: “Behold the Turtle: It Makes Progress Only When it Sticks Out Its Neck.” That spirit is at the heart of this podcast. Each episode honors the people who took risks, told the truth, and helped make more room for LGBTQ+ people within Baptist life.
Hosted by AWAB Executive Director Brian Henderson, the first season explores the history, theology, leadership, and lived experience that continue to shape this movement across churches, communities, and generations. New episodes will be released each Thursday beginning April 9.
Below is a list of upcoming episodes. As each episode is posted, we will add a link to the episode:
