Choral Performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat

Join us for a performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat by our Covenant Choir! The performance will feature a chamber orchestra and soloist, Sherrie Lawhon. The Magnificat or Song of Mary is one of the three New Testament canticles. Mary sings the song on the occasion of her visit to Elizabeth, as narrated in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:39-56). Rutter includes the poem “Of a Rose, a lovely Rose” along with the traditional Latin text. No cost to attend.

Many of us journey through the Advent and Christmas season not with joy, but with sadness. Perhaps we’re reminded of a loved one we’ve lost, or going through financial strain, or we’re really sad and angry about the state of the world – and celebrating Christmas just doesn’t feel right. Our Blue Christmas service acknowledges all of this, and gives us space for our grief, our lament, and our emotions during the Advent season. Ultimately it will remind us that hope can still be present even among the toughest feelings and situations.

Feeling blue? While the holidays are a time of joy and celebration, they can also be a time of deep grief. Whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, the loss of family relationships, or another grief that this time of year stirs up for you, we want to invite you to our Holiday Blues service. We’ll hold space for our grief, as well as offer a time of comfort through our shared presence. Hope you’ll consider joining us as we move through this holiday season together.
